Mounting on a disc (also known as framing or picture framing) gives a rigid, flat and professional result. Perfect before framing, for exhibitions, or when the picture is to be hung directly on the wall.

What is plate mounting (casing)?

Mounting on a disc means that a print or image is evenly attached to a rigid disc, so that the result is stable and completely flat. In the industry, this is often referred to as plate mounting or image mounting. You get a clean finish, easier handling and a solution that suits both private customers and professional productions.

When is mounting on a disc suitable?

  • When you want a completely flat image (without waves in the paper)

  • When the image should framing and you want a stable surface

  • When the image should professionally presented (exhibition, gallery, trade fairs)

  • When you need a robust solution for transport, delivery and handling

  • When you want a wall-ready expression (depending on plate and hanging solution)

How to order

1) Online ordering 

  1. Select format/size and desired solution in the online store.
  2. Upload your file or provide a reference if you order print from us at the same time.
  3. Select any optional extras where relevant (e.g. hinge solution/finishing).
  4. Complete your order at checkout.

 

Restrictions: Online ordering has some limits for disc sizes and formats. If you need special dimensions, large formats, a different disc or a project with multiple choices - use the contact options below.

2) Order via email

Send a short enquiry to in**@**gs.no and we'll respond with a suggested solution and next steps.

This is what you should include:

  • Size (width × height) and quantity
  • What the image will be used for (framing / straight on wall / exhibition)
  • Whether you already have print (paper type if known), or whether we will print
  • Desired delivery (collection/shipping) and any deadline

3) Personal attendance in the studio (Oslo)

Stop by if you'd like to show the print, see examples and get a recommendation on the spot.
Take away: the print (if you have one), dimensions/format, and preferably a picture of where it will hang.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the difference between plate mounting and casing? It's basically the same thing. Casing/picture casing is the industry term for mounting on a disc.
  • Do I have to deliver a finished print, or can you print first? Both are possible. You can order a print + mounting on a disc from us, or deliver a finished print.
  • What sizes can I order Standard sizes can be ordered online. Special sizes and large formats can be ordered via contact form.
  • What should I include in a request? Measurements, quantity, area of use, whether we will print, and desired delivery/deadline.
  • Will there be bubbles or uneven edges? The goal is a flat result with a clean finish. The choice of paper, disc and size affects the method - we recommend a solution based on your application.
  • Can I hang the picture directly on the wall afterwards? Often yes, with the right hanging solution depending on the disc and format.
  • What is the difference between mounting on a disc and framing? Mounting on a disc provides a rigid base. Framing is a frame (often with glass/spacing/passepartout). Many mount on a disc before framing.
  • Can I deliver a print from another printer? Answer. Include info on paper type and size if you have it.
  • Do you offer rush jobs? Sometimes. Send us the format, quantity and deadline and we'll quickly tell you what's possible.
  • Can you send pre-assembled pictures, or do I have to collect them in Oslo? Both. We find the safest solution based on size and material.
