Ppi (pixels per inch) is a measure of how much image data there is per centimetre in the file. 300 ppi at actual print size is the rule of thumb for sharp prints. A file that looks sharp on screen may have a much lower ppi — the screen fills in what the eye cannot see, but the printer does not. I have an analogue original. What should I do? Yes — provided it’s saved at the highest quality and hasn’t been edited and saved numerous times. If you have the original in TIFF or PNG format, please use that instead. What is a colour space, and do I need to worry about it? A colour space determines which colours the file can contain. sRGB is the standard for screens and the web. Adobe RGB gives better results in print. We’ll handle the conversion to a print profile for you — but if you’re able to save in Adobe RGB, that’s an advantage.

What happens if a print gets damaged in the post? PIGS will replace any prints that are damaged during dispatch. Take a photo of the damage and the packaging as soon as the parcel arrives, and contact us — we’ll produce and send you a new print. → Read more about making a claim

Q: Print run and materials

What is the difference between a limited edition and an open edition? A limited edition means that you set a maximum number of prints — e.g. 1/20, 2/20, etc. Once the edition is complete, no further prints are produced. An open edition has no fixed limit — you print to order for as long as there is demand.What types of paper are available, and which are suitable for art prints? We print on a wide range of Hahnemühle FineArt papers — everything from smooth and photographic to textured and handmade surfaces. For art prints, we’d recommend Photo Rag, Museum Etching or William Turner, depending on the subject matter. → PIGS paper guide Can I order a test print before placing a larger order? Yes. If you’d like a full-size print (e.g. 50x60cm) – simply order a single print in your chosen size and paper quality, just as you would with a standard print order. We also offer test prints on A4 sheets for NOK 170 including VAT, regardless of paper choice. Can I have prints on canvas? Yes. We offer prints on canvas, delivered flat or ready-stretched on a blind frame. Unfortunately, we do not post products that have been stretched and mounted. What are the maximum print sizes you can handle? We print up to 160×210 cm. For very large formats, we recommend contacting us in advance so that we can advise you on file requirements and paper choices.

How do I sign and number prints correctly? Most artists sign by hand with a pencil or pen in the white margin below the image, along with the edition number (e.g. 7/30) and, if desired, the title and year. If you live outside Oslo, we can arrange for a stamp or pre-printed signature to be ready for you at our studio.What is a certificate of authenticity, and do I need one? A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) confirms that the print is an original — providing details of the subject, edition, paper, ink and the artist’s signature. How does an ongoing POD partnership with PIGS work? You submit the files once — we archive them and print to order every time you or your customer places an order. No minimum order volume, no contract term. Can you send directly to my customers without PIGS branding? Yes. We offer white-label dispatch — the parcel is sent without the PIGS logo or sender details, so the customer perceives it as a dispatch from you.Can I integrate this with my online shop? We do not have an automatic integration with, for example, Shopify or WooCommerce, but many customers use our online shop directly to place orders. Please get in touch if you’d like a more bespoke solution.

Q: Everything you need to know about shipping to Norway, Sweden and Denmark

How are prints packaged for dispatch? All prints are wrapped in acid-free paper. Flat prints are sent in rigid envelopes or sandwiched between sheets of cardboard, whilst larger prints are sent in tubes. The packaging protects against moisture, pressure and bending during transport. Do you send print-on-demand orders to Denmark and Sweden? Yes. We produce in Oslo and send tracked parcels to the whole of Scandinavia. Delivery times to Denmark and Sweden are normally 5–8 working days, including production. How much does delivery to Denmark and Sweden cost? Delivery costs depend on size and weight. You’ll see the delivery cost at checkout before you pay. Do my customers have to pay customs duty or VAT upon receipt in Denmark or Sweden? For orders under EUR 150, VAT is already included in the price, and the parcel is delivered at no extra cost. For orders over EUR 150, import VAT and any customs duties will be calculated on delivery. We label all consignments with the correct value and IOSS number.Is the parcel marked with the PIGS logo when sent abroad? Yes, but you can request that the parcel be ‘white-labelled’ – without the PIGS logo – so it is sent neutrally, with no visible sender details from us. You can also include your own leaflet or branding if you wish.

This is how it works

1 You have a photo — analogue or digital

An image you have created — whether drawn on paper or created on screen — can become a physical print hanging on someone else’s wall. Print on demand makes it possible to share your art without parting with the original, but instead in limited or unlimited editions with many people who might like your artwork.

A print on Hahnemühle paper is not a reproduction in the pejorative sense — it is a craft in its own right, with a lifespan of over a hundred years. The technique is developing rapidly and the quality of the prints is constantly improving.

2 Your file must meet the requirements

A file that looks sharp on screen may appear blurry in print if the resolution is too low. The rule of thumb is 300 ppi at the actual print size — but don’t worry, we’ll check the file for you and let you know if anything needs adjusting.

We prefer TIFF or PNG, but a high-quality JPEG is fine too. Send us what you have, and we’ll have a look at it together.

3 You choose the format, paper and print run

What kind of paper suits your artwork? How big should the print be? Do you want to sell them one at a time, or produce a limited edition of, say, 20 copies?

4 Test printing and approval

We mainly print on Hahnemühle FineArt paper using pigment-based ink that lasts for over 100 years. We are a Hahnemühle-certified studio. To get a better idea of what your prints will look like, start with a test print — choose your paper on pigs.no or pop into the studio.

Production time is typically 2–3 working days after the file has been approved.

5 Signing and white edges

Sign the prints yourself — we’ll help you with a well-thought-out layout for your works. Many people choose to leave a white border around the image to make room for the signature, title and edition number.

Do you live outside Oslo? We can arrange for a stamp or a pre-arranged signature to be ready at our premises when orders come in.

6 Packing and dispatch

We prepare your prints for dispatch. We wrap them securely in acid-free paper and send them to you — or directly to your customer without any PIGS branding.

Once the printing is complete, we’ll take care of the rest. We deliver throughout Norway, Denmark and Sweden — either to you, or directly to your customer without any PIGS branding.

All parcels can be tracked. Prints measuring up to 110 cm on the longest side are sent in tubes or flat packaging, depending on their format.

In Oslo, we also offer a collection service at Christian Krohgs gate 34 and a courier service for urgent items or large formats.

White label shipping

Do you sell prints under your own name/brand? We can ship directly to your customers in Norway, Denmark and Sweden - without any PIGS branding on the parcel.

We offer two additional services specifically for print on demand customers:

Shipping stickers with your logo - 10 round stickers on matt vinyl, 5 cm, attached to the pack. Up to 2 designs per order.
Personalised thank you card - A6, single-sided print on the same paper as the order. The customer adds their own photo (or the order's motif) and a short text (max. 120 characters), the card is sent together with the print order.

Both cost kr 119,- incl. VAT. and is only available in combination with a print order.

What does it cost?

You sell a 50×70cm print in photo quality (200-270gsm) for SEK 1,400 in your online store, and our net price in the online store is approximately SEK 440 per print, the maths looks like this:

Your customer pays: 1,400 kr + shipping (175 kr in the online store)
Our share: 440 kr (production) + 175 kr shipping = 615 kr
Your gross margin: approx. SEK 785 per print sold (before platform costs/fees)

The prices above include production, quality control and neutral packaging (white-label). Special solutions (e.g. signing, certificates or own packaging) and any promotional discounts are agreed separately. For higher volumes and regular launches, we can offer better purchase prices.
